Rann of Kutch Information Guide

Rann of Kutch is lies at the top of district of Kutch located in Gujarat. It is a vast parched expanse of white salt desert. At a measure of around ten thousand square kilometres, it is the largest white salt desert of the world. During the monsoon, the whole area submerges in the water. The remaining months are great to visit this place.

To visit Rann of Kutch, the best way is through the city of Bhuj, which is also called the Jaisalmer of Gujarat and is famous for its handicraft and 2001 earthquake that devastated the city. There are two main places to stay for tourists visiting the Rann. First is Dhordo, where the government of Gujarat is developing the Gateway to the Rann, consisting of traditional mud huts and decorated with the beautiful Gujarati handicraft. Another place to stay is the village resort in Hodka by the name of Shaam-e-Sarhad, meaning evening at the border. The resort has the tent as well as mud hut accommodation.

One of the most important things to remember when planning to visit Rann of Kutch is to take the written permission. It is considered a sensitive area as it is in close proximity to the border of Pakistan.
