Orchha City Information Guide

The word Orccha translates to ‘hidden place’ in English. The place is quite true to its meaning. Orccha isn’t among the most highlighted tourist destinations in India. Located in Madhya Pradesh, this place is often visited by the people who are either going for Khajuraho or Jhansi. However, this does not mean that this lesser known place is not worth a visit. On the contrary, it is a wonderful place with small and large monuments telling the stores of several battles fought between the emperors and the kings.

Maharaja Rudra Pratap Singh established Orchha in the year 1501 and there was a time when it used to be the capital city of the kings from Bundela Rajput dynasty. The city from the olden time seems to have been lost on the maps for the tourists. However, one visit and you will see how the incredible monuments of this city continue to be the true epitome of pristine Rajputana Royalty.

Jhansi is about 16 km from this place and also happens to be the nearest railhead. Once in Jhansi, you can take the auto rickshaw to reach Orccha. The roads are narrow and winding and true reminder of the medieval period. The fort complex of Orccha is one of the major attractions of this place.
