Kerala tourism is ranking first in India. And, why not? Each place is synonym of Nature and portraying how it should have been 1000 of years ago. And so is Thekkady, which is the spice plantation district of Kerala. Surrounded by never ending array of hills, Thekaddy also known as idduki district is the center for the well known Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary.
The first vision that would flash in front of your when you enter this district is its lush green depiction of Flora and Fauna and Elephants in the Jungle. And as soon as you start touring inside, your smelling glands will fill with aromas of cardamom, tea, coffee and pepper from the plantations around.
Periyar wildlife Sanctuary is a vast dense evergreen forest and is a home to different species of wildlife, majority nurturing elephants and the tiger. The forest also has an artificial lake which is built to witness the wildlife through boat rides. The forest officials also offer elephant safari circling the inner perimeter of Jungle for 30 minutes.
Thekkedy also is a spot for trekking and rock climbing. Kuriumala, Pullumedu, Grampi and Ottakathalamedu are few of the trekking zones here. Thekkedy proffers authentic Kerala cuisine made from coconut oil. Coffee and road side quail egg dishes are amongst the popular menus here.
