Munnar is an incredibly beautiful hill station which is located in the Idukki district on the Western Ghats of the state of Kerala. Munnar is very well known as the home to a number of beautiful mountains. Lush greenery fabulously covers the mountains and then there are the famed tea gardens as well. In fact, Munnar has the higest tea gardens in India. Although the very early history of this place is not quite known, the indigenous people of Munnar are said to belong to the tribal clan called Muthuvan. For the longest time this land remained unexplored. Only in the mid of the 19th century the Europeans started taking notice of it and began the plantations.
Munnar is truly blessed with towering mountain ranges with foliage capped peaks covered in mists, expansive tea gardens, tranquil climatic conditions, and some unbelievably marvellous landscapes. The clouds flying low over the valleys shrouded in mists provides a sight which can hardly be matched with anything else. The city is also known for the beautiful wild orchids. The local people call these orchids as Neelakurinchi. These orchids are quite sought after as they bloom only once in a span of 12 years. Munnar also has many wildlife sanctuaries which attract the attention of the visitors.
