Hassan is the home to the control station of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Hassan is one of the oldest towns in the state of Karnataka and is carries lots of historical significance. The town is full of rich history and culture. The town got its name from the deity called Haasanamba. The town was founded way back in the 11th century by Channa Krishnappa Naik. For nearly two centuries, the two remain under the control of the Hoysala dynasty. This is exactly the period when many famous temples were constructed including Belur and Halebid.
Hassan offers a lot of options in terms of sightseeing and this is the reason why it is being visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists in all seasons. Belur and Halebid remain to be the primary attractions of the town. However, Hassan is also known for Shravanabelagola, the central place for Jains. The best months to visit this place are March and October. The temperature remains moderate and pleasant during these months.
