Haridwar City Information Guide

Haridwar is a famous pilgrimage city for Hindus. Located at the bank of the sacred Ganga River, the city sees millions of devotees every year, who just want to take a plunge in the holy water of Ganga. It is believed that the pious water of river Ganga has the power to absolve people from their sins. This small city is believed to be one of the four places where the drops of elixir were accidently fell down. For this reason, the sacred Kumbh mela is celebrated here, every twelve years and pilgrims from all over the country visit for salvation.

Haridwar is a land of various temples and ashrams. The name of the city itself means Gateway to God. The most famous attraction of the city is Har ki Pauri, a sacred ghat where every evening the enchanting Ganga Arti takes place, with millions of devotees worshipping the Goddess Ganga. Some of the famous temples of the city are Mansa Devi Temple, Bharat Mata Mandi, Chandi Devi Temple and Daksh Temple. From Haridwar, one can also travel to Rishikesh for water sports and yoga and meditation.

Haridwar has some of the best budget hotels. There are several ashrams which offer cheap accommodation. One such asharam is Shanti Kunj, located just nine kilometres away from Har Ki Pauri, where you can take part in daily Yajna in the morning to purify your soul.
