Hampi City Information Guide

Hampi is the place that echoes the glories of the past. Often referred to as the jewel in the middle of the jungle, Hampi has also become one of the world heritage sites of UNESCO. Although it is a small village in the northern part of the state of Karnataka, from the tourism perspective, it is extremely important. Hampi was once the affluent capital of the glorious empire of Vijayanagar. Hampi carries in its lap the huge remanants of the old empire. Sometimes it is also being referred to as ‘City of Victor.’ This huge empire stretched from the Bay of Bengal to the Arabian Sea and reached unmatched heights during its peak. Hampi is not just a place of historical significance but also has a lot of religious value attached to it. There are enormous temples, relics, fortifications, palaces, ancient monuments, and market streets.

Hampi can be safely said to be one of the most scenic places in the state of Karnataka. The Tungabhadra River wreathing through the city and its panoramic landscapes make Hampi an extremely exquisite tourist destination. There are very few places in the country that encompass the blend of religion, imposing architecture, and exuberant natural beauty.
