Conoor is the second most important hill station in the Nilgiris district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is also a tea plantation area now visited by tourists for vacations. Coonoor is located at a height of 1850 m above sea level is a trekkers paradise and many of the trekking expeditions start from here to the higher reaches of the Nilgiris.
Coimbatore is the nearest big city including the airport closest to Conoor where tourists arrive by air. It is roughly a distance of 28 Km from Conoor. Coonoor is also connected to other places by a metre gauge railway line as part of the famed Nilgiri Mountain Railways.
Some of the places to visit during a trip to Coonoor include Sim’s Park, Law’s Fall, Droog Fort Ruins, Dolphin’s Nose, Pomological Station, Lamb’s Rock and Katary Falls. The Queen of All Hill Stations Ooty is not far from this place. It is only about a 19 Km to its Northwest.
Coonoor is also the the Tea Capital of South India with massive private tea plantations. It also has a Army Base of the Madras Regimental Centre. All in all a fine place to visit during summers with beautiful scenic views and excellent weather.
