The Athirapally Falls situated on the Chalakudy River in the Thrissur District of Southermost Indian state of Kerela is located at a height of 1000 ft. This area is entrance to the western Ghat mountains. The water falls from a height of 80ft and makes a breathtaking view. Not only that this area houses some of the most endangered and rare species of the flora and fona including Hornbills.
This area is at a forefront of natural conservation efforts. Elephant Park already exists in this area. It is also classified as an ‘Important Bird Area’ and efforts are on to get it declared as a Reserve Forest or Sanctuary.
The easiest way to get to Athirapally is to reach Chalakudy town which is 30 Km away. Closest Airport is the Cochin airport which is about 70 Km. Once you get to Chalakudy, you have the option of either hiring a private vehicle or taking a bus.
Other than enjoying the amazing view of the Athirapally Falls, there is an option of going on a jungle safari facilitated by the Kerala Tourism Board. Famous Film Personality Maniratnam is fascinated by this place and shot many of his famous movies here.
